I absolutely love bright fun moments in life that make you laugh so hard you cry. So when I decided to make glass beads it was because of my love of color that I associated with “happy feelings”!

Continuing on the legacy!

October 27, 2009

I was deeply saddened by the passing of Roy Yelton.  The family has been in an upheaval recently with the impending grand opening of the new store and the sudden hospitalization of Roy.  It looked as though he was going to heal enough to at least hear about how the opening went even though he would not have been able to attend.  I do not pretend to understand all the of the details of what happened and the events of his passing, but i am sure that this time has been extremely taxing upon their whole family.  My thoughts and prayers go out to them.  I am sure these next few days will be very tough and almost surreal as they realize the loss, so i am asking all of my readers to say a simple and poignant prayer on behalf of their whole family.

There is no doubt in my mind that Roy will be at that opening in spirit!  I will miss you Roy, in the short spurts of time i knew Roy, his magnetic personality always put a smile on my face.

Whatever it is you do, make it fun!!!

So, I been stressed a little lately because i have been mixing sooooo many colors trying to match certain colors in some of the Vera Bradley patterns.  If you have ever tryed to mix paint, crayons, markers, pencils;  it is not the same with glass!!  It is tedious and it is frustrating.  Once i get it no problem i will just keep my recipe and my palette for another enjoyable day of creating in the future.  However, i have not been having any fun, except i am happy with one of the palettes.  Soooo, i was looking around my studio and came to the wall words i had put on my wall back when i created my studio.  It says:

“Pleasure In The Job Puts Perfection In The Work ~ Aristotle

Anyhoo, since i have been stressed and bogged down with orders and not having any luck with some of the colors, i feel like time has been wasted and i am not having pleasure in my job!!!  Wellllll, i decided to just play and not worry about THOSE beads and Voila’, just like that things started to flow and i actually discovered one of the colors by accident, HA!!!  It was when i looked at that saying, i took a deep breath and tryed to remember why i started making beads in the first place.  WHY you ask?  It is because of my love of color and my love of glassy things that propelled me in my journey.  It was not stress, it was not because i had to do it, it was because i WANTED to do it!!  Sooo, for the next couple of days i am going to create the rest of my beads for my new store!!!  YES, a new store called The Silver Rabbit, and it is in Michigan.  There will be more on that later!!

Sooo (yes alot of elongated words tonight), remember to have fun, even with the tedious every day things like in this video!!  I love this, i would so be in shape if this were on every stair i came across!!  Why, because pleasure even in the small things makes a difference!  Peace!

VERA BRADLEY LOVERS, HERE I COME!!!

October 18, 2009

Well, i decided to type in bold and also italicized writing because i am soooo excited about the new store opening on November 5th!!  I hope you all come out to the new Yelton’s store, it is going to be quite a spectical.

Did you all know that they are going to be the largest retailer in the area for Vera Bradley and i have personally taken this to heart.  Ok, so most vera lovers also love beads!!!  Why you ask?  Because Vera Bradley lovers, LOVE color and glass bead lovers, LOVE color!!  That is why i have been working so hard to have a few special beads that match some very specific patterns.  So far i have mixed colors and layered glass to match the “Blue Rhapsody” fabric as well as the ” Symphony in Hue”!!  Tomorrow i will still be working on Symphony but will also move on to “Paprika”.

I spent a day trying to deliver the color palette for “Carnaby” because i love that pattern but sadly i have been unable to master the lighter and darker pinks in that fabric.  Pink glass is very elusive and it is so hard to have anything outside of a light bubblegum pink or a rich vibrant rubino/fuscia pink.  You can layer all you want with every color to try and find it, but that is why the glass companies cannot produce it, because if they could it would be available!  Soooo, with that said I have not given up yet, i am still trying to research the internet and other glassy people to try and find the right combo to produce the bright pinks in that fabric.  Stay tuned……

I would show you all the beads but i know how you all are and you would immediately call Yelton’s and try and nab them, as well as pick up the handbag that matches them and i cannot allow you to do that, lol!!  You will have to be there or be square for this batch, okay????  There will only by 4-5 of each design i have said, maybe one other design but i plan on making them forever and moving on to each great seller that Vera has!  Soooooo with that said please comment on this post to vote for your favorite fabric!!  It has to be something they are selling now, not retired!  It also has to have been revealed during the last year!  Nothing from summer either……  I know I know but i have to start somewhere!  Ok, get moving and comment me for the vote!

These are the beads i made earlier today!  They have a white center and a generous layer of transparent glass in different colors!  These are matted by the etching process and they are quite beautiful in person.  I have a feeling these will fly out of the store!  I am going to make more!  Same pics of the same beads because i could not decide which one i liked best!  Have a great Saturday night!
